Languages Other than English (LOTE)
Living, as we do, in a global village, now more than ever fluency in a language other than English is an invaluable skill.
Learning another language opens up new opportunities and gives perspectives that might not have otherwise been encountered. Personal, professional, social and economic considerations all point to the advantages of being bilingual.
Students at St Augustine’s College can develop comprehensive language skills in either Japanese or Italian, which will not only enhance their career prospects but provide cultural self-awareness and an edge in judgment and competence.
The key focus of the Saints language programs is on positive communication in the target language. Students are encouraged to use the language in realistic life situations. In classes students use fun, sequential and self-paced computer language programs to help improve their proficiency.
The boys develop their skills by conversing with domestic and international students from Italy and Japan, and overseas study tours are held annually in exchanges with those countries enriching our LOTE program.

We acknowledge the First Nations peoples of Australia, the traditional custodians of the land, seas, skies and waterways on which we reside, work, travel and meet. We pay our respect to First Nations elders past, present, and emerging, and support the Uluru Statement From The Heart. We acknowledge that the land, seas, skies and waterways of Australia were, are and always will be, that of the First Nations peoples.
