Debating
St Augustine’s has a rich history of public speaking and debating at a regional and a state level with much success.
Each year, Saints enters the Cairns Rotary Debating competition in both the Junior and the Senior divisions. In teams of three, students engage in debates across a wide range of topics. They prepare written speeches and rebuttals and debate other schools in the greater Cairns region.
With senior students well-versed in the art of public speaking and debating, along with enthusiastic junior students learning the trade, the Saints debating team is a formidable one!
All boys are encouraged to try out and participate.

We acknowledge the First Nations peoples of Australia, the traditional custodians of the land, seas, skies and waterways on which we reside, work, travel and meet. We pay our respect to First Nations elders past, present, and emerging, and support the Uluru Statement From The Heart. We acknowledge that the land, seas, skies and waterways of Australia were, are and always will be, that of the First Nations peoples.
